Declaring War on the Sinner’s Prayer

My family came out of a church whose pastor gave an alter call at the end of each sermon on Sunday morning.  He would claim, in so many words that, ‘if you prayed that prayer sincerely, you are saved.’  Then he would welcome those who had responded into Christ’s Church.  Youth leaders would tell children, as young as four, that if they made Jesus their ‘forever friend‘ that they were saved.  Students were treated as if they were already saved even though their lives bore no fruit and their behavior was questionable, at best.

The sinner’s prayer is just the tip of the iceberg!

Pastor Paul Washer has declared war on the sinner’s prayer…

  1. I don’t know who this guy is, but I agree. I think the so-called “sinner’s prayer” is part of the problem with today’s church. “Easy believism” is a term I’ve heard. Too many people say this prayer but what is their heart position? One can say the prayer without a bit of understanding what it means. The whole issue of “asking Jesus into your heart” is unbiblical.
