The Evangelical Collapse?

I don’t know anything about the Christian Science Monitor, but they had a great commentary that I wanted to share.  It is from a fellow named Michael Spencer, a.k.a. the Internet Monk or IMonk.  Again, I’m not familiar with him, but was impressed by his thoughts.

Here’s the beginning to whet your appetite:

We are on the verge – within 10 years – of a major collapse of evangelical Christianity. This breakdown will follow the deterioration of the mainline Protestant world and it will fundamentally alter the religious and cultural environment in the West.

question-mark1aHe goes on to ask, “What is going to happen?”  and “What will be left?”.   Then, finally, he asks, “Is all of this a bad thing?”  Many of his observations are spot-on; he clearly has his finger on the pulse of the American church.   And while he admits that he’s not a prophet, he ends with one last extremely serious question,

But is there anyone who is observing evangelicalism in these times who does not sense that the future of our movement holds many dangers and much potential?

Good question!

You can read the entire article here and visit his blog here where he has links to the expanded version of this article.

After you read it all, come on back and let me know your answer to his questions.   🙂
