Rick Warren, Who is ‘Isa’?

Wow, completely missed this one! Remember, last Tuesday, the Inaugural prayer delivered by Rick Warren . . .

I humbly ask this in the name of the One who changed my life Yeshua, Isa, Jesus, [pronounced in Spanish], Jesus who taught us to pray:

That was Rick Warrens prelude to wrapping up his inaugural prayer with the Lord’s Prayer. Isa is the Arabic or Muslim name for Christ and the inclusion of the name in the prayer was an obvious ecumenical bone thrown to the Muslims.

That’s not good…

The Muslim Isa is not my Jesus…in their doctrine he was not crucified for the sins of the world but was a forerunner of Muhammad.  Read the rest here.

  1. Thank you, judy, for pointing this out. Here are some verses from the Qur’an about Isa: “The similitude of Isa before God [Allah] is that of Adam; He [Allah] created him [Isa} from dust” (Surah 3:59) “That they said in boast ‘we killed Christ Isa, the son of Mary’… but they killed him not, nor crucified him.” (Surah 4:157) “O people of the book, commit no excess of you religion: nor say of Allah aught but truth, Christ Isa the son of Mary was an apostle of Allah.” (Surah 4:171) I agree with the statement then that the Isa of the Qur’an is not the Jesus who died for me on the cross at Cavalry. Thanks again for a great post judy! Meggi

    • Thank you for specific verses from the Qur’an. Hope you visit again. judy

  2. you are overreacting. English-speaking people use “Jesus,” which is not how he was addressed when he was on Earth. When Jesus was alive, they pronounced his name “Yeshua.”

To be consistent, you would have to criticize all of us for using “Jesus” instead of “Yeshua.”

    • Thanks for stopping by and glad you are reading posts on our site. The point of this post in not about the translation of the word Jesus in other languages it is a much larger issue of the person, Isa. Yeshua is from the Christian Bible, Isa is from the Koran. There is much more at stake than a simple Islamic translation of the word ‘Jesus’ which would include the essence of who Jesus is in the context of Christian Scripture.

Isa is not Jesus. Jesus is the Son of God and any Muslim would tell you that Isa is NOT the Son of God.

Clearly Rick Warren does not know who Isa is and perhaps he also doesn’t know who Jesus is.
